![]() ![]() Dalai Lama heads to Brazil Monday for four-day visit RIO DE JANEIRO, April 1 (AFP) - The Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual leader, heads to the southern Brazilian city of Curitiba Monday for a four-day visit where he will participate in seminars sponsored by a Tibetan support group. The Dalai Lama will take part in a seminar on human value in Curitiba, a city near the Atlantic coastline 680 kilometers (425 miles) southwest of Rio. A concert where singers Gilberto Gil, Rita Lee, Elba Ramalho and monks from Drepung -- Tibetans who live in India -- will be given in his honor Tuesday evening, said Arnaldo Bassoli, cultural director of the Brazilian Tibetan support group. On Wednesday, he will visit a federal university in Brasilia for a symposium on peace. Other religious leaders, including the Rabbi of the Israeli Congregation of Sao Paulo, Henry Sobel, will also participate in the event. Later in the day, the Dalai Lama will give a conference to the national Congress at the request of the House of Representatives' Commission on Human Rights and the Senate's Commission on External Affairs. The Dalai Lama, who has been in exile since 1959, is making the trip at the invitation of the support group who raised money to cover expenses, estimated at 168,400 dollars.
